History at Stillness

Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.’ – George Santayana (1852-1952), philosopher and poet.

Our history curriculum enables children to understand the chronological development of our society from the Stone Age to the present day. They learn about the nature of ancient civilisations such as the Egyptians and Mayans, and the British Empire.

Through the studying of contrasting viewpoints, confidence in critical thinking and questioning skills is built. Real historical documents such as films, photographs and diary entries and studied.  Children learn that it is only through evidence that we can truly know the past and educational visits are key to this learning.
